What is slow fashion?

Slow fashion isa new consumer trend in the ready-to-wear industry, aimed at buying clothes that are eco-responsible, sustainable and of better quality.

The term was coined in contrast to " fast fashion ", which refers to excessive and rapid consumption. It's hyperconsumption of the product.

Slow fashion is therefore the opposite of this idea of consumption, and moves towards more sustainable fashion that is more responsible for the planet. The aim is to consume less but better, with clothes that last over time and which, once they've reached the end of their life, can be recycled or are as environmentally friendly as possible. In this way, we prefer to focus on quality rather than quantity.

But what are the criteria that enable a brand to be committed to slow fashion?

Well, first of all, its production methods. Production is carried out in smaller quantities, depending on pre-orders. This avoids waste and promotes superior product quality.

Then there are the production sites, which also play a role in slow fashion. It's obviously better if the clothes are designed in the country, in this case France. Local or European production reduces the carbon footprint, encourages economic activity and creates jobs.

The choice of materials also contributes to this consumption style, with natural materials such as organic cotton, linen and hemp, as well as processed materials such as Tencel and Micromodal. And don't forget recyclable materials, which are an excellent solution for avoiding waste.

Last but not least, labeling allows us to promote chemical-free dyes that are more respectful of the environment and human health. These include labels such as Oeko-Tex, GOTS, Origines France Garantit and many others!

Now you know a little more about the term slow fashion, which is being used and practiced more and more!
