Sales are great, we all agree. You can buy clothes you wouldn't be able to afford every day, and manufacturers and RETAILERS can sell off their dormant stock. What's more, this period makes quality available to as many people as possible.
What a bargain! Invented almost two centuries ago in Paris - old-timers say it began between 1820 and 1830 - the sales had everything to please.
But.... Can you feel the problem coming on?
We'll keep it short. Today, sales have become a high-stakes commercial period, where manufacturers anticipate and create special series - more low-end to keep margins interesting - and with no relation to available stocks.
This is a far cry from the old idea of making cash by selling off unsold products. And above all, the worst thing in our eyes is that consumers are being misled into thinking they're buying quality for cheap, when in reality they're buying inferior quality - let's keep it polite - for less.
So we don't want to take part in this kind of joke. At Maison FT, we just want to get back to the basic spirit of this period: to let you take advantage of slightly better prices on models we have in stock. This way, we can introduce as many of you as possible to our creations, and at the same time save a few bucks for future collections. A win-win situation :)
